George Lehr - Bio
George Lehr has been a championship shooter for over 40 years. His lists of accomplishments are many. George was recently inducted into the NSSA Hall of Fame.
George was introduced to skeet shooting in 1961 when a friend persuaded him to take the 20 gauge Mossberg bolt action shotgun he was using to kill barn pigeons to a local winter league.
League officials tried to warn the novice that a bolt action was not exactly the ideal weapon for skeet. targets, but when George broke 19 of 25 birds they decided that he was fast enought to overcome the equipment. George started shooting registered targets in 1966 and was punched into AA on his very first shoot.
Along the way, George has established a lifetime 12 gauge average of .993 and been elected to 14 All-American skeet teams. George's career includes numerous "firsts" -the first shooter to break 100 with a .410 at the New York State Championships; the first shooter to break 4x4 in New York State; and the first shooter to break 4x4 in the US Open, in 1983.
He has twice led the world in doubles average and established the highest doubles average shot so far: .998. George currently holds the individual sub-sub senior HOA record of 599x600 and shares the two-man team HOA record of 999x1000 with Craig Parsons. In 1992, he shot a perfect 1200 with the 12 gauge, and his 20 gauge has carried him to the top of the leaders list on three occasions. Consistency over the years is the name of the game and George is extremely proud of the fact that he has the longest span of years, 22, between the first time he led the world in a gauge and the most recent.
In addition to his shooting achievements, George exemplifies good sportsmanship and support for skeet and has served as a state and national director. George volunteers his time and energy to promote skeet with local groups and organizations, gives skeet clinics to raise funds for club activities, and instructs an coaches both new and established shooters.
